Profiling LGBT London

File 643Many LGBT organisations and groups will recall the PiP Report produced by Kairos in Soho back in 2007. This comprehensive analysis of the London LGBT voluntary and community sector is an excellent piece of research that many organisations still refer to today.

Kairos in Soho (KiS) and the In Our Name project partners, London Friend, PACE and the Metro Centre, have just launched the In Our Name Almanac Questionnaire.

The information collected by this questionnaire will form the basis of the 2010 London LGBT Voluntary and Community Sector Almanac, an up to date mapping of the sector building on the strong foundations of the PiP report.

Worcester's First Pride Cancelled.

Worcester's first ever gay Pride festival has been cancelled due to insufficient funding.

Following much deliberation the Pride organisers have decided to pull plans for the large scale LGBT celebration that was to take place in September as they feared they would not be able to pull off such a big task with the little money they have.

The official Worcester’s Pride site released a statement, which read:

'The project plan for Worcester Pride 2010 has gone through many changes due to the major developments that have occurred in Worcester and

Birmingham LGBT Survey of Needs

File 652Birmingham LGBT has been commissioned by Birmingham City Council to design a survey to find out what are the real issues and needs for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans and who live, work or socialise in Birmingham.

The survey is confidential and takes about twenty minutes to complete. You cannot be identified by it and they only ask for the first three digits of your post-code to find out which part of the city you live in.

Stoke's new Polari Lounge

File 651A new coffee lounge style drop-in centre has been opened in Stoke, filling a gap in the community and providing welcome support.

In 2010 the LGBT Network was successful in securing funding from the Robbie Williams 'Give it sum' charity and the Staffordshire Foundation to set up and run a Gay and Lesbian drop-in Centre in the City Centre.

To allow them to engage with people who are LGBT they believed that it was necessary to be creative in their ap

Independent on Sunday's Pink List

The Independent on Sunday’s Pink List 2010 was released at the start August, presenting us with what they had decided as the ‘101 most influential gay and lesbian people in Britain today’. Their aim in doing so was to spark debate as to who and why such people were included.

As with previous years, the majority of the list was made up with celebrities and media types. Yet this year the inclusion of activists and charity heads opens people’s eyes to those who are working for a greater good.

Performance improvement for the LGBT third sector

File 645The Consortium has recently joined the National Performance Programme.  As part of the programme the Consortium is working with Charities Evaluation Services (CES) to deliver free outcomes training for LGBT infrastructure organisations.

This two day course will help organisations adopt an outcomes approach to their work. Focusing on outcomes allows an organisation to concentrate on its aims and to bring about the changes to achieve them.  An outcomes approach helps gr
