Summit House Support

SHS

Summit House Support Ltd (SHS) is a registered charity which has been operating in Dudley and Sandwell for over 21 years with an excellent reputation for delivering customer focused successful interventions. Our mission is to empower the people we support to set their own goals and vision, realise their full potential and live free from discrimination, equipped with the confidence and skills to contribute to the communities in which they live. Our Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans Questioning (LGBTQ) service works with a community who are vulnerable to isolation and social exclusion due to issues around their sexuality or gender identity. Since 1999 Summit House Support has been home to the ‘Dudley & Sandwell MSM Project’ which has promoted and facilitated a holistic one to one and peer group support service to gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men mainly living in Dudley or Sandwell although the peer group is open to cross regional MSM. Support is available to assist with any issue related to sexuality including discrimination, hate crime, isolation, sexual health, exposure to HIV and HIV/STI prevention, drug or alcohol misuse, low self-confidence or self-esteem, mental health issues, relationship issues - all of these being issues affecting MSM disproportionately compared with their heterosexual counterparts. During 2013/2014 Summit House launched ‘UNIQUE’ a young people’s LGBTQ service and peer support group specifically for 16 to 24 year olds. Funded by the National Lottery this service is open to young people from across the Black Country and Birmingham. UNIQUE uses social media to communicate with the young LGBTQ community as well as one to one and group activities.
