Unique Transgender Network

UNIQUE is a voluntary organisation supporting Trans people in North Wales and West Cheshire. Trans people – from closet Cross-dressers to Transsexuals following Gender Reassignment Surgery – often need reassurance and support from others with similar experiences. One of Unique’s prime aims is to help Trans people accept themselves and find acceptance from others. We do this both by supporting individuals and by providing information and diversity training to the wider community. Unique has a wealth of personal experience and useful contacts within the local community and caring professions. We offer a friendly and safe environment where Trans people can meet once a month, find support and make friends. Unique is an inclusive group that welcomes all Trans and gender diverse people, together with partners, friends and anyone who wishes to support the Trans community. Trans is an umbrella term inclusive of anyone who feels that the sex/gender assigned to them at birth (male or female) is either an inaccurate or incomplete description of them.

Unique Committee members regularly take part in various activities to facilitate understanding of trans issues and improve relations between the transgender community and the rest of society. Unique has the necessary knowledge of the subject and wide experience of the transgender community to offer expert training on trans related diversity awareness and equality. Committee members also consult with a number of organisations on these matters, including local councils, universities, Welsh Health, the Welsh Assembly and the national Parliamentary Forum on gender identity.
