BIG LOTTERY FUND – Changing Attitudes - Changing Lives

Monday, August 8, 2016 - 10:00

The Trustees of Outhouse East are delighted to announce that our bid to the Reaching Communities Fund from the Big Lottery has been successful.

This 4-year project will fund two LGBT Awareness Advisors, who will deliver a community outreach project to raise awareness and challenge negative attitudes towards the LGBT community living in and around Essex.

This work will take place in schools, clinics, charities, companies, and other organisations, in the form of workshops, assemblies, and training sessions.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for us, as the need of LGBT awareness – particularly in schools and clinics – is greater than ever before. The 3-month pilot of this project, which ran in 2013, received an abundance of calls and requests for awareness sessions, from all over Essex. We are very happy to receive this funding from the Big Lottery, particularly as we are the only independent charitable LGBT organisation that covers East Anglia. I believe this project will greatly enhance people’s awareness of the issues faced by the LGBT community, and have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the LGBT community.” - Martin Gillingham, Chair of Outhouse East
