Government LGBT Action Plan Launched

Wednesday, July 4, 2018 - 08:45

We were delighted to be in attendance at the Kia Oval in London for the Government's official launch of their new LGBT Action Plan. The Plan, which contains 75 actions for this term of Parliament crosses all Government departments and will offer multiple opportunities for the LGBT sector to engage, input and deliver some of the work. The actions come as a result of the National LGBT survey the Government conducted last Summer, which attracted 108,000 responses-the largest a national Government has ever achieved.

The Government Equalities Office has pledged £4.5million towards the actions in the Plan which will be distributed to other Government Departments, through the GEO itself and also out to LGBT organisations through defined programmes and pieces of work. We have been advised that over the Summer and into the Autumn session of Parliament we will learn much more about the detail of some of these actions, one of which includes a commitment to helping small LGBT organisations to become more sustainable and explore income diversification. This is very exciting news and great to see Central Government recognising the need for a more sustainable LGBT sector.

LGBT Consortium will be keeping a keen eye on the Action Plan development and seeking every opportunity for our Members to have their say and engage with the implementation. As we gather more information we will update our Members through our monthly e-bulletin so please make sure you are signed up. If you aren't and want to be please contact philip.moir@lgbtconsortium.org.uk.
