LGBT Tower Hamlets: Make History Now! - Photography Competition

Monday, April 3, 2017 - 15:00

ELOP, in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council, is pleased to announce the launch of the photography competition: LGBT Tower Hamlets: Make History Now!

You are invited to submit your photographs of LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender + ‘queer’ identity) life in the borough of Tower Hamlets, to capture a contemporary record of the community in all its diversity.

The photographs submitted will be added to the archives of the Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives, meaning your image will be preserved for future generations. The winning images and others will be displayed in a large exhibition at the Local History Library & Archives between July – September 2017, as part of London’s annual Pride celebrations and may be used in future exhibitions.

Brief

  • Whether you live, work, study or socialise in Tower Hamlets - how would you like to see your  LGBT+ life in the borough depicted?
  • How would you show future generations what LGBT+ life in Tower Hamlets looks like in 2017?
  • What is LGBT+ life in Tower Hamlets like for you? Does it involve staying in, going out, being with family, being alone, being with others? Dancing, being outdoors, walking, playing a sport, playing with pets, shopping, relaxing, cooking, working, protesting, worshipping, creating, researching, caring for someone or being cared for, entertaining others or being entertained? Take a photo of it. Take another.

A panel of judges will review all the entries. The judges want to see a diverse representation of LGBT+ identities depicted in a wide range of high quality photographs.

Let’s celebrate LGBT+ identities in the borough, make ourselves visible, and Make History Now!
