National Hate Crime Week 2014

Friday, October 10, 2014 - 09:00

National Hate Crime Week 2014 organised by 17-24-30 in partnership with Stop Hate UK is taking place this week.

The purpose of the Hate Crime Awareness Week is to tackle Hate Crime issues by raising awareness of what Hate Crime is and how to respond to it, encourage  reporting, and promote local support services and resources. Stop Hate UK & 17-24-30 hope that the events across the week will encourage local authorities (Police, Council and others) to work in partnership with local groups and community organisations to host a series of Hate Crime Awareness Events throughout the UK and Abroad in the week leading up to the International Day of Hope and Remembrance for those affected by Hate Crime.

There are plenty of ways to get involved

Put your Hands up for Challenging Hate – send in a photo of your hand to include in a Hate Crime Week Mosaic
Follow #HCAW14 and help promote the week
Organise an awareness event. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy, even just a stall with Hate Crime information and details of reporting services
Run a vigil in your own local area
Contact your local Hate Crime Coordinator.  Most police forces and local councils will have a dedicated officer responsible for tackling Hate crime.  What are they doing?
Get a story in your local media.  They are always hungry for stories

You can keep up to date with what is happening during the week on the website and if you are organising an event, send the details to info@stophateuk.org to get it listed.

check the National Hate Crime Events Listing on the Stop Hate UK website to see what is going on in your area.
