The National LGBT Hate Crime Partnership Publish New Resources

Wednesday, September 21, 2016 - 10:30

In the run up to Hate Crime Awareness Week next month the National LGBT Hate Crime Partnership have launched a series of information sheets to help individuals affected by hate crime, and to support agencies tackling hate crime.

Paul Roberts OBE, LGBT Consortium's CEO and the Chair of the Partnership, explained who they are for, saying: “We’ve got a great set of information sheets and videos aimed not only at  people who may be experiencing hate crime but also at other agencies such as  the police, councils, housing associations and care providers. This will mean  support workers are better equipped to help their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and  Trans service users, who are affected by crimes motivated by prejudice.”

Nik Noone, Chief Executive of Galop, a specialist LGBT anti‐violence charity, put  this into context adding: “We’re proud of these community guides providing a wealth of useful  information on overcoming problems around hate crime. There are also a  series of expert resources for professionals which we hope will assist services in  giving the best possible response to people who report. The fact that Galop  saw a 147% rise in the number of hate crime advocacy cases we handled  following the Brexit vote shows that resources such as these are especially  important for our community right now.”

The 17 resources, and 5 videos, offer guidance and practical help on a wide  range of subjects, including:

  • Emergency Accommodation
  • Financial assistance schemes
  • Practical help keeping a record of incidents
  • Guidance for LGBT parents on talking to their children about bullying
  • Tackling Biphobia and Transphobia

The full set of the 17 resources, and 5 videos, can be found  on our Public Resrouces pages or at:  www.lgbthatecrime.org.uk
