Published: Joint Review of Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Organisations in Health & Care Report

Thursday, May 19, 2016 - 14:15

Joint review of partnerships and investment in voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations in the health and care sector has published its Final report.

Produced in partnership by representatives of the VCSE sector and the Department of Health, NHS England, and Public Health England, the purpose of the review was to;

  • Describe the role of the VCSE sector in contributing to improving health, well-being and care outcomes
  • Identify and describe challenges and opportunities to realising the potential of the sector to contribute to these outcomes
  • Consult on options for policy and practice changes to address challenges and maximise opportunities, then develop final recommendations

The report makes recommendations for government, health and care system partners, funders, regulatory bodies and the VCSE sector. It emphasises putting wellbeing at the centre of health and care services, and making VCSE organisations an integral part of a collaborative system.

Alex Fox, independent Chair of the Joint VCSE Review said "It is the VCSE sector which has consistently demonstrated it can reach and engage with local communities: helping even those most often overlooked to speak up, contribute and take the lead. Our recommendations set out how VCSE organisations can be supported – and challenged – to do this.

VCSE organisations want to share in the health and care system’s limited resources, but they also bring resources of their own and they are willing and able to share in the risks and responsibilities of creating a health and care system which supports us all to live well, with the people we love, in places we are happy to call home."
