World Pride 2012

File 1671

With World Pride 2012 just around the corner, we know that many of you have been working hard to recruit volunteers, produce resources, build floats and much more.  We have heard from a number of you that the changes in times and the removal of floats and cars from the parade has seriously impacted on your plans, undermining your ability to effectively promote your work and engage with communities.

The Consortium is working closely with all parties involved to try to mediate for the original parade to go ahead and for our LGBT communities to be fully involved.

In the spirit of engagement, there are things that our Members can be doing to help get the parade back on track. Please see below, wherever you are based.

We need to remain positive about why the Parade should go ahead as originally planned. It provides us with a unique opportunity to stand side by side and promote the huge array of work we all undertake. If we work together to lobby for a positive solution to this, then the world will look on in awe at what our communities can achieve together.

How can you help?

If you are an organisation or an individual in London you can lobby London Assembly Members. You can find out who they are on the Greater London Authority website.
Tom Copley, a Labour London Assembly Member has already released a message on this, which can be seen here.

In London and the rest of the UK you can speak to your MP and get their support for the Mayor of London to step in and help get things back on track. You can find out who you MP is on the Parliament UK website.

Please don’t forget, to achieve our opportunity to stand side by side and promote our good causes, we must remain positive and prove the case for the original Parade.
