Education Development Coordinator

We have an exciting opportunity for an Education Development Coordinator to work with teachers and young people in Hull.

Yorkshire MESMAC is a group of independent community based sexual health and social wellbeing services that are committed to developing and delivering services that are responsive to the needs of our communities. We are seeking to appoint the following: Education Development Coordinator – Hull (18.5 hours)

Overall Aim:

  • Teachers report they feel equipped and supported to provide adequate and appropriate RSE to their pupils.

Prime Objectives:

  • Schools have the information and skills needed to deliver a comprehensive programme of RSE, providing accurate information about the body, reproduction, sex and sexual health.
  • To manage and supervise a project team (up to 5 full time equivalent staff), placements/students and volunteers
  • Pupils have the essential skills for building positive, enjoyable, respectful and non-exploitative relations, staying safe both on and off line.

Main Responsibilities & Duties (list not exhaustive – please refer to the job description and person specification below for more details)

  • To coordinate the delivery of Yorkshire MESMAC’s RSE strategy in Hull including its Peer Mentoring service & responsible for the management and supervision of the Youth Activation Workers, Training Development Worker and Volunteer Development Worker.  
  • To ensure that Yorkshire MESMAC's commitment to equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practice is reflected in all aspects of work and service delivery.
  • To identify and engage with schools in Hull to support their delivery of RSE 
  • To engage senior leadership teams at identified schools and agree timescales and development plans
  • To deliver training and support to schools; both teaching and non-teaching staff
  • To create and disseminate an RSE training and resource package to Hull schools which embodies the ‘12 Principals of Effective RSE’
  • To identify, train and support young people as co-facilitators and peer mentors for training delivery.
  • To assist schools in developing policies, processes and practices that foster gender equality and LGBT equality and challenge discrimination

Salary:  NJC scale 6 (points 23 - 25) starting at £26,999 pro rata per annum for 18.5 hours per week. Contract is fixed term until 31st March 2021 (with the possibility of a 2 year extension). There is a 5% workplace pension and membership of Simply Health (on completion of probationary period). Salary is reviewed annually. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with barred lists check.
