LGBT+ Domestic Violence Helpline Worker

Galop is the LGBT+ anti-violence charity, providing advice, support and advocacy to LGBT+ people who have experienced hate crime, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Galop also supports people who need help with the criminal justice system and is engaged on a strategic level to ensure issues affecting LGBT+ communities remain high on the agenda of commissioners, decision-makers and non-specialist service providers.

We are looking to recruit an experienced sessional Helpline team member to join our London based team. The successful candidates will report to the Helpline Manager and will work on a rota basis. The key purpose of the role is to actively listen to LGBT+ people calling in, and assessing their level of risk, creating safety plans, and sign posting people to relevant services.

To be considered for this post, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working with survivors of domestic abuse
  • Experience of supporting people who are distressed
  • Experience of delivering support via a helpline
  • An understanding of the issues affecting LGBT+ people experiencing domestic abuse
  • Flexibility to cover different helpline shifts
  • Be able to work as part of a team

We would actively welcome applications from BME groups and the Trans community.

Please note that there is a genuine occupational requirement under the Sexual Orientation Regulations 2003 for this post. It is considered essential that post holders have experience of LGBT needs, and impact of discrimination as the Helpline is run for LGBT people experiencing domestic violence.
