Our Impact 2014

As a Membership body it is important that we can evidence the impact we have as an organisation. We have been working on gathering a range of statistics and facts from our diverse Membership.

Membership Makeup

61% of our Members have fully subsidised Membership thanks to our fee-paying Members. Member' income breakdown consists of the following:

  • 38% have an income of below £1,000
  • 22% of Members declare they have no income at all
  • 23% have an income of between £1,000 and £10,000
  • 11% have an income of between £10,000 and £50,000

This means that a total of 72% of our Members have an income below £50,000 per annum.

Our Membership is made up of informal groups, registered charities and social enterprises, as well as individuals, corporate and public bodies.

We support all our Members so they can deliver vital services to 3,119,386 beneficiaries.

Working in the Sector

Our Members income forms just 0.04%* of overall voluntary sector income. (*This data is in comparison to the NCVO Civil Society Almanac 2013 www.data.ncvo-vol.org.uk)

There are 459 Members of staff within our Membership, most of whom are part-time.

Our Membership creates 3830 volunteer opportunities.

61% of our Members provide their vital services with less than £10,000 income per annum.

Our Engagement

Our Engagement team have supported 23 new groups through their startup phase in the last 12 months, including support around identifying the most appropriate structure.

40% of our Membership has actively sought and received support from our Engagement team in the last 12 months. The most demanded areas of support are:

  • Governance & Structure
  • Recruitment
  • Peer networking and support
  • Promotion and publicity
  • and of course fundraising

As a result of our work, 17 Members have been directly supported in submitting funding bids, resulting in £112,000 of income into the sector.

The majority of Members seeking detailed support have an annual income of below £20,000.

Membership fees paid are an investment in the grassroots LGBT initiatives our Engagement team supports.
